This painting was done in plein air at the Gull Pond, a kettle pond located in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, a town in-between Cape Cod and Provincetown. The acrylic paint is mixed with acrylic modeling paste and is then applied with a piping bag to create lined texture emulating the illusion of pine needles. This painting took three settings on site. I was inspired by the dramatic lighting, the abstract forms found in nature, and the many textures that were surrounding me. This piece has sand and plant matter from the site mixed into the paint, acting as filler as well as a special textural element to the piece.
