The pond on my property has two weirs, one on opposite side of the other. These weirs act as passageways where a stream leads into the large pond and then exits again on the other side, returning back to the wetlands. I find these structures to be integral to the life on my land, creating a pool of water in the center that sustains so many critters, fresh water plants, and a source of joy and entertainment for my partner and I. For this painting, I first began by doing an acrylic pour of different shades of blue, black, and yellow, to create the foundation of water and reflection that is so mesmerizing and beautiful. The rocks that sit on top of the plank of wood are real rocks, that are reflected down below creating a scale shift and an uncanny, playful interaction for the viewer.
