This is a portrait of my father (yep, he's a crabby old geezer). He always said if I ever painted him I'd probably do one of those "weird looking things with two eyes on a flat head", so he pleasantly proud when I gifted him this piece in my medium of Water Batik on Rice Paper. Layering watercolor washes and wax is not an easy medium for a portrait because those little rice fibers can get in the way and make a nose look not quite right, for example. However, they all behaved themselves in this case....maybe fear of what Dad would do to them.
